Demonstrators denounce Saudi govt, investor
- Rights activists and workers demonstrated yesterday in front of the Saudi Embassy in Cairo, calling for the release of Egyptian internet activist from Saudi jails as well as denouncing a Saudi investor who bought a privatized textile factory in the Nile Delta, where an industrial action has been going on for more than two months.
- Demonstrators carried banners reading “Where’s the government? Where’s the PM? Where’s the president?” and “The Government of businessmen have let the workers down.” They also out chanted: “Neither (Egyptian) passport nor ministry of foreign affairs defended Egyptians,” and “Ask them for how much they sold a contract in Saudi Arabia,” and other different rhymed cheers
- A Tanta Flax and Oil Company striker also read out a statement in the end of the protest, affirming that he and his colleagues “are joining the protest to demonstrate against the Saudi investor, Abdel Elah Saleh al-Ka’ky, whom they call Abdel Riyal (Riyal’s Slave).”
- “We succeeded in expressing our sorrow and anger against Ashmawi’s detention,” said Assyouti of ANHRI. “Our protests will not stop until Asmawi is released and the Tanta Flax and Oil Company demands are fulfilled.”
